Lakeville Athletic Hall of Fame Members for 2007

The following Lakeville Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees were honored on July 8, 2007 in ceremonies held at Crystal Lake Golf Course.

Bill Asmus
Bill is a 1986 graduate of Lakeville High School. A premier high school swimmer for the Panthers, Bill was a five-time State Champion in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle from 1984 to 1986. He was a three-time All American and the co-captain of the team in 1986. Bill culminated his high school career by being named Minnesota Swimmer of the Year in 1986. He went on to swim for the University of Minnesota and won All-American Honors five times. He was a tri-captain of the team and a member of the 800 meter relay team. This group was the Big Ten Champion, setting a Big Ten record with four former Minnesota prep stars. Bill was also a qualifier for the U. S. Olympics Trials in 1988. exas and was the Captain of the three time NCAA Champions in 1988.

Elisabeth "Wiz" Bachman McCutcheon
Wiz is a 1996 graduate of Lakeville High School with a list of athletic honors and accomplishments beyond belief. Her LHS volleyball career includes a State Team Consolation Championship in 1995, All Conference and All State honors in 1995 and 1996, and 1st Team High School All American in 1996. Her senior year was culminated by being a finalist for the National Volleyball Player of the Year Award. Liz was a high jump and discus specialist and captained the LHS Girls Track Team in 1996, earning All Conference and All State Honors in 1994, 1995, and 1996. She placed 2nd and 3rd in the State High Jump at the 1994 and 1995 State Meets. Liz attended UCLA on a volleyball scholarship and graduated cum laude in 2001. Her college athletic career included being team captain in 2001, PAC 10 All Conference in 1999, 2000, and 2001, four-year starter, and a multitude of athlete-academic awards. She capped her amateur career as a member of the U. S. Olympic Team in Athens, Greece, in 2004 and is currently playing professional volleyball in Japan.

Michael Doughty
Mike is a 1993 graduate of Lakeville High School who played a major role in his school's football program from 1989 to 1992. He was a very large and imposing lineman on a team of imposing players. Mike was a two-time All Conference and All State Lineman and played in the Minnesota Football All-Star game his senior year. He was captain of the Lakeville State Championship Team in 1992 and went on to be named Parade First Team All America, USA Today First Team All America, and rated the Top High School Lineman in the country by Super Prep. Mike received a scholarship to Notre Dame University, where he was a four-year starter from 1993 to 1997 at offensive tackle. His career included appearances in four bowl games and a start in the Hula Bowl All Star Game his senior year. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1997 and continued his football career as offensive tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals from 1998 to 2001.

Gretchen Hammond Ehnes
Gretchen is a 1983 graduate of Lakeville High School who excelled in volleyball and track. She was co-captain of the volleyball team her senior year and played on the 1982 and 1983 teams, which placed 3rd at State. Gretchen was conference and regional champion in the high jump in 1982 and 1983. She is the current record holder in the high jump at Lakeville. Gretchen went on to North Dakota State University, becoming a four-year All Conference volleyball player and received All-American honors her senior year. She was named to the NDSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. Gretchen continued playing volleyball after college, competing in the U.S.A.V. Nationals for many years. She also played the final season with the Minnesota Women’s Professional Volleyball Team, the Minnesota Monarchs. Today Gretchen continues her athletic endeavors with running. She has run in three and one half marathons and plans to run more in the future.

Barnis N. Lilly
Barney is a 1953 graduate of Lakeville High School. His high school athletic career was highlighted by the Panthers first undefeated football team in 1952. Barney was a starter on the team and won Little Six All Conference honors in 1951 and 1952. His play was recognized for 100% effort and his ability to block opponents larger than him. His quiet but determined play carried over to his baseball career and earned a selection to the All Conference team in 1952. Barney attended Gustavus Adolphus College and the University of Minnesota, earning a teaching degree in 1962. He has had a long and distinguished career in education as a math teacher and coach. Barney was a varsity baseball coach for 32 years. He also coached basketball and football at various levels for 18 and 24 years, respectively, at Emmons and then at Kerkoven (now Kerkoven-Murdoch-Sundberg). His baseball teams won five Conference Championships, and he led teams to State in 1991 and 2000. His legion baseball teams appeared at State in 1968 and 1969.
